Preparing and Recovery from Surgery
Total joint replacement is a major surgical procedure that you should prepare for. Our data and experience shows that the stronger you are going into the surgery the stronger you are coming out! This aligns with much of the research showing pre-operative range of motion and strength are best predictors of post-operative outcomes.
Our approach before surgery is to use what we call prehabilitation or “pre-hab”. Pre-hab focuses on improving the strength of the muscles around your joint, as well as educating you on what to expect after surgery. Tips on transfers, movements, and exercises will accelerate your recovery after surgery. We can implement blood flow restriction (BFR) training to help you gain strength without stress on your joints.
Physical therapy after total joint replacement is changing. Patients rarely stay in the hospital and after often discharged straight home. As such, our mobile physical therapy can help you recover in the comfort of your home. We are often used as an adjunct exercise service for patients who are receiving home health care. Our total joint rehabilitation programs are customized to your surgical approach, strengths, and weaknesses. Our PT solutions are unique to you! Our research & evidenced-based treatments have been effective for thousands of our patients with joint disease. We can implement blood flow restriction (BFR) training to help you gain strength without the pain of traditional PT exercises.
Benefits of PT for arthritis:
Lower rates of infection with PT at home vs rehab facility
Improved quality of life
Reduced pain
Improved range of motion
Return to activities like golf, tennis, surfing, or work
Increased strength
Better balance
Improved mobility and function
